Happiness and Misadventures

Unrequested Mid-May Update

The past two weeks were quite intense, mostly for work โ€” private life is ok, but we are always stuck in the renovation limbo.

About work, I’ve been to a cool event from a famous European Cloud Provider (there aren’t many, so it’s easy to guess it) in the Italian Big Apple. Every time I travel to Milan, I hate it. It’s sad, but it’s factually dangerous to move with trains because of pickpockets, and there is always so much traffic by car. That’s one of the main reasons because I want to spend my life a in the cozy countryside.

About that, I am building weird relationships with my neighbors: they need help, but they tend to become a little oppressive when asking for help. A few weeks a go, I had watched Baby Reindeer, and a couple of times I felt as I was in the show. ๐Ÿ‘€

About vacations, we’re planning another trip to France, this time to Aveyron, for which “charming” seems a reductive adjective!

Finally, in the past few days, I decided to install a lightweight OS on an old laptop my mother gave me, with limited resources (1 dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, an SSD I installed). At first, I tried HaikuOS, but I found out there are too many bugs when mounting NTFS external disks. Then I tried OpenBSD, but at the boot of the graphical interface, my keyboard was unusable because, when I pressed any key, it was repeated endlessly. Finally, I tried Arch Linux, and I spent a good four-five hours to install it and make it work as I wanted. I feel both successful and failure, because I thought I had quite a good experience with Linux, but there is always something new to learn. Anyway, now the laptop has:

๐ŸŽง In love with Domkraft

  1. I wonder why it is SO DIFFICULT to find a standard among /.xsession, /.xinitrc, ~/.bashrc, and others valid for all distributions. Probably it’s my fault, but every time I spend way too much time for this. ↩︎
