Happiness and Misadventures

Tiny Pleasures

This week has been cold and rainy. Just a few hours ago, luckily, the sun began to shine. One of the small pleasures of living in the countryside is to get out and just stand still, sitting or not, letting the sun warm your body. Until June, at least; later, it quickly shifts to dangerous.

From the work perspective, it’s been the toughest week of the year (I suppose I can say that!), but there were satisfactions too: big opportunities, some good feedback from the customers, good reputation left around.1

I feel mixed feelings: overwhelming and pressure because of the job and other tasks I assign to myself (e.g., the weekly short stories), but also little moments of relief. In the new house, we’re putting down the parquet, and each time I enter that door, I appreciate that environment more and more. I finally found a good reading pace, without falling asleep each night after a page and half, and I’m enthusiastic for finding M. R. James’s prose: it’s vivid, funny (in its own way), and teaches me something in every short story I read.2

The most peculiar moment happened this morning: my girlfriend told me she hadn’t slept well because she couldn’t stop thinking about moving to the new house in the next months… and she doesn’t want. She loves staying in his little hamlet — and so do I. If anyone reading this is interested in a country house, newly renovated, in Northern Italy… 👀

Finally, a good resolution for the next blog posts, in order to avoid the usual “rant list”: to write something with a topic. Until now, this year I’m quite good at completing the goals. Let’s see how it goes.

🎮 Just started Gof of War Ragnarök!

🎧 Listening to the new Mogwai’s right now. Good!

📖 The same two as before

  1. And some awkward moments too, obviously. ↩︎

  2. I’ve found a nice BBC TV movie from 1968 based on one of those ghost stories! ↩︎
